The San Pasqual Band of Indians recently announced the election of members to serve on the tribal Business Committee.

Stephen W. Cope is the newly elected chairman. He was a council delegate, working to create employment opportunities for tribal members. He previously served as the chairman of land and housing for four years, as well as a gaming commissioner for an additional three years, according to the tribe.

“I am honored to win the trust of the tribe; on behalf of myself and everyone else on our newly elected Business Committee, we look forward to serving our General Council and continuing to move our tribe forward,” Cope said.

The San Pasqual Band of Indians owns Valley View Casino & Hotel which is currently undergoing a $50 million expansion.

The tribe’s General Council also elected Justin Quis Quis as vice chairman. Quis Quis was with the Gaming Commission for more than 13 years as a commissioner and the last two years as its executive director, the tribe said.

Incumbent Secretary-Treasurer Tilda M. Green was re-elected. Green has served the tribe in an official capacity for 42 years with the last 14 of those years as the secretary-treasurer of the Business Committee.

The tribe re-elected incumbent Council Delegate David L. Toler.

Joe Chavez was elected to fill the remaining council delegate position. It will be his first term on the Business Committee, according to the tribe.
