Rapidly growing San Diego software company Seismic has hired its first chief marketing officer.

The company's software generates marketing collateral for sales and marketing teams and tracks the collateral's performance.

Its new CMO, John Raguin, cofounded Guidewire Software (NYSE: GWRE) and led it from inception to $150 million in revenue and pre-IPO. Subsequently, Ranguin held management roles at Ariba (acquired by SAP) and MRO Software (acquired by IBM) and was a partner at venture capital firm F-Prime Capital.

Ranguin will lead global marketing strategy at Seismic, which in 2017 recorded a net customer retention rate of 118 percent and year-over-year revenue growth of 97 percent.

That year Seismic added more than 100 total employees and moved into larger offices in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and into its new San Diego headquarters. In 2018, Seismic plan to increase its workforce of 350 by about 190 additional employees. About 75 of the new positions are slated for San Diego.

Seismic is privately held by its executive team and investment firms General Atlantic, JMI Equity and Jackson Square Ventures. It employs 350 people.
