Kane Named CEO of UC San Diego Health Physicians

Dr. Christopher Kane will lead the charge to expand primary care access, among other goals, in new roles as dean of clinical affairs for UC San Diego School of Medicine and CEO of UC San Diego Health Physicians.

In a UC San Diego Health news release Aug. 22, Kane said one aim is to enhance ambulatory and clinical care offerings, which is part of a push among local hospitals to set up additional outpatient sites for patients who are seeking proximity and lower costs. He’s also charged with connecting patients with complex needs to specialized faculty, along with collaborating with teams to improve clinical operations.

Kane now oversees all aspects of UC San Diego Health’s physician practices, including ambulatory clinical operations, clinic staff, care navigation, scheduling, call centers, ambulatory quality, and patient experience. UC San Diego Health Physicians is made up of more than 800 physicians.

He is the founding chair of the UC San Diego School of Medicine Department of Urology, a position for which a nationwide search will be conducted. Other notable positions he’s held include senior deputy director of cancer surgery and physician-in-chief at Moores Cancer Center.

A retired Navy captain and a decorated veteran of Desert Storm, he is board-certified in urology.
