San Diego-based company PriceSmart Inc., which owns and operates 39 discount warehouse club stores in Central America and the Caribbean, announced Wednesday that sales in the quarter that ended May 31 were up 3.8 percent to $710.7 million from $684.5 million one year ago.

During the same quarter last year, the club had one fewer warehouse club store in operation.

Total revenues in that quarter, the company’s third of its fiscal year, were $730.3 million, up from $704.3 million in the same period of the prior fiscal year.

PriceSmart (NASDAQ: PSMT) recorded net income of $18.8 million, or 62 cents per diluted share, compared to $16.8 million, or 55 cents per diluted share, the company said.
