San Diego Health Connect Selects N.Y. Firm to Manage Medical Images

San Diego Health Connect, the region’s nonprofit medical information exchange, has selected New York-based Ambra Health to manage its medical images.

Ambra prevailed in a bidding process overseen by a panel representing local health care providers including Kaiser Permanente, Rady Children’s Hospital, Scripps Health, Sharp HealthCare and UC San Diego Health System.

The company formerly known as DICOM Grid offers health care providers access to patients’ X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI images using cloud-based Internet storage.

“A partnership with Ambra Health enhances the image-sharing capabilities of our platform through a fully integrated and federated cloud image management model,” San Diego Health Connect’s executive director, Daniel Chavez, said in a Nov. 16 news release.

San Diego Health Connect, formed in 2010 with a $15.2 million federal grant to the University of California, San Diego, links physicians with 21 of 23 hospitals in San Diego and Imperial counties, as well as the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Ambra’s image management platform is used by more than 750 health care providers.
