Lilac Hills Supporters Submit Signatures for November Ballot Bid

Supporters of the 1,700-home Lilac Hills Ranch development have submitted approximately 110,000 signatures in a bid to have the North County project placed on the November ballot.

A spokesman for San Diego-based development firm Accretive Investments Inc. said proponents on June 3 delivered 174 boxes containing pages of signatures gathered since February to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. The registrar will have 30 days to verify that at least 67,837 of the signatures are valid.

Assuming the threshold is reached, the county Board of Supervisors will vote, possibly on July 19, to approve the project or place it on the November ballot, or ask for 30 days to further study the project.

The initiative drive was launched by a group that includes residents of Bonsall, Fallbrook and Valley Center, and is financially supported by Accretive Investments, led by CEO Randy Goodson.

The San Diego County Planning Commission voted last year to approve plans for the controversial Lilac Hills Ranch, a mixed-use, 608-acre community that would be built in phases and would include more than 1,700 homes, 90,000 square feet of office and retail space, a 50-room hotel and various open spaces, parks and other civic amenities.

The site is east of Interstate 15 and takes in unincorporated land spanning the county’s Bonsall and Valley Center planning areas. County supervisors are considering issues including those raised by neighbors of the project site, over the development’s size and potential long-term impacts.
