Abacus Data Systems Inc. announced that it had appointed Major G. Horton to be its chief financial officer.

“I am thrilled to have Major join our senior management team,” said Alessandra Lezama, CEO of Abacus, in the company’s release. “He is an exemplary leader whose broad experience in small and large specialty technology organizations uniquely qualifies him to lead and build our financial operations as we enter a transformative period in our company, aiming to take Abacus' virtual desktop offering worldwide to enable businesses of all sizes to compete in a predominantly technology-driven economy.”

Horton has over 20 years of experience in financial and leadership roles. He was working as an independent consultant to emerging cloud technology companies before joining Abacus, where he will manage finance, corporate development and human resources activities.

Horton formerly served as senior vice president for corporate development at local cloud storage provider Nirvanix, senior vice president and chief financial officer for Rackspace Managed Hosting and vice president of finance/divisional controller for Dell business units.

Horton graduated from Kettering University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master's degree in business administration.
