Omnitracs LLC, the Qualcomm spinoff business that was acquired by Vista Equity Partners one year ago for $800 million in cash, recently completed its purchase of XRS Corp., a Minneapolis maker of software that helps trucking companies manage vehicle fleets via mobile devices.
Omnitracs, which provides similar fleet tracking technology, said it paid about $178 million for XRS. Together the companies will deliver fleet management solutions to about 30,000 customers in 63 countries, Omnitracs said.
Vista Equity, which acquired two other San Diego technology companies last year — The Active Network and Websense — said in July it was moving Omnitracs headquarters to Austin after receiving a $3.9 million grant from the state of Texas.
According to the latest announcement, Omnitracs has about 800 employees.
