The U.S. Air Force recently awarded Northrop Grumman a $7.9 million delivery order for Global Hawk aircraft equipment — specifically spare parts for ground and communications systems.

The Pentagon said it is setting aside fiscal 2011 aircraft procurement funds for the order, and that the work will be complete by October 2015.

Global Hawk is Northrop Grumman’s high-altitude, unmanned spy plane, which is able to fly autonomously. The defense contractor manages the program in Rancho Bernardo.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio was the contracting office.
