DJO Global Inc., a Vista-based maker of orthopedic braces and other medical supports, and devices, announced that its third quarter net sales grew 5.1 percent to $288 million, compared with the like quarter in 2012 in which it reported net sales of $274 million.

For the third quarter of 2013, the company reported a net loss of $18.5 million, compared with a net loss of $22.6 million for the like quarter 2012.

Year to date, DJO achieved net sales of $861.9 million for the nine months ended Sept. 28, showing a 2.7 percent growth compared with net sales of $838.9 million for the like period of the previous year.

The company said its Tunisian manufacturing plant recently caught fire, reducing its production capacity. While it did not impact third quarter earnings, DJO said that losses attributed to the fire — which it said appears to be accidental — could be up to $5 million.
