Sente Inc., a “cosmeceutical” skin care company launched last year by a cadre of San Diego biotech executives, has appointed another industry veteran to its board of directors.

Joining Sente is Magda Marquet, founder and co-chair of Althea Technologies Inc., a contract research organization that was acquired for $175 million this year by Ajinomoto Co. Inc., a Japanese food additive corporation.

Marquet is the co-chair of what is now Ajinomoto Althea Technologies. She is currently involved as investor, adviser and board member in more than 20 local San Diego companies.

Sente’s founder, Kleanthis Xanthopoulos, is also the CEO of San Diego-based Regulus Therapeutics Inc. Regulus, a publicly traded company with a market capitalization of $278 million, develops drugs based on RNA therapy. The chairman of the Sente’s board is Faheem Hasnain, also president and CEO of San Diego pharmaceutical company Receptos Inc.

Senté, called a “cosmeceutical” company because it melds cosmetics with pharmaceuticals, develops a product that it says help regenerate facial skin cells.
