Tri-City Hospital Foundation raised more than $136,000 at the second annual “Fashion That Heals” champagne luncheon and fashion event. The event, held at the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa, featured local fashion retailers and health and beauty tips. Sponsors included North County Radiology (now San Diego Imaging), Bellus Academy, Tri-City Emergency Medical Group, Federal Heath Sign Co. and Datron. The funds raised will be used to purchase the latest mammography equipment for Tri-City Medical Center. “Early detection of breast cancer is the only way to save lives and this new equipment will do just that for the women in all of our lives,” said event Chair Ellen Stotmeister … The Classroom of the Future Foundation donated college scholarships and awards to local schools that demonstrate teaching and learning improvements at the Innovation in Education Awards Program. The winners included the San Diego Unified School District, $10,000; the San Marcos Unified School District, $5,000; Valhalla High School in the Grossmont Union High School District, $5,000; the Santee Elementary School District, $5,000. The event was held at the Hahn Center at University of San Diego … Four San Diego County high school seniors received scholarships from the Don Diego Scholarship Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the San Diego County Fair. Winners of a $5,000 scholarship are: Brooke Buckley, Fair Employee; Scott Jacobson, 4H; Matthew Kelly, FFA. Tessa Adler won a $5,000 Fair Exhibitor scholarship, and is the inaugural recipient of a $5,000 Spanjian Family Scholarship, for a total $10,000 award. “This year’s crop of Don Diego recipients is particularly impressive,” said foundation Chair Paul Ecke III. “We received a record number of applicants and interviewed three finalists in each category, who were selected after a comprehensive, rigorous application process.” The scholarship winners will be recognized at the Don Diego Steve Miller Band Dinner and Concert Gala on June 15, 2013 at the fair … FOX Sports San Diego donated more than 500 Padres tickets to local charities including, Operation Homefront, Home of Guiding Hands, San Diego Center for Children, After-School All-Stars of San Diego, The Children’s Initiative, The Salvation Army, Armed Services YMCA, Meals on Wheels of San Diego, Blue Star Families, San Diego Fire and Rescue Foundation, and Circle of Friends. The FOX Sports San Diego Fan Express, a new 55-person motor coach branded with Padres players, will be used to transport select charities. The ticket donation is part of FOX Sports San Diego’s Charity Ticket Partner program, which will provide more than 5,000 Padres tickets to local charities throughout the 2013 year … Cymer Inc. was lead sponsor for High Tech Night at the Opera and underwrote student tickets for the event.
