Connect CEO Duane J. Roth is being treated at UC San Diego for a brain injury that occurred during a biking accident Sunday near Lake Cuyamaca.

Roth was reportedly biking with the nonprofit Challenged Athletes Foundation when he struck an outcropping in a solo accident.

The Connect Executive Committee met Monday and appointed Tyler Orion, past chief operating officer, as interim president, according to the group’s website.

Connect is a nonprofit organization that fosters innovation and advances in in San Diego’s life sciences and technology sectors by linking people and companies to resources they need for success.

Prior to his role with Connect, Roth founded Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp. The San Diego company helped preserve blood oxygenation levels in patients undergoing surgery. He was previously the chair of Biocom, and has served on the boards of the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the California Healthcare Institute.
