The University of San Diego raised more than $50,000 at the 5th Annual Wine Classic. The funds raised will benefit the Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund, which supports USD students. More than 750 people attended the event, which featured USD-affiliated wineries, gourmet food stations, live music and a silent auction. Sponsors included Bartell Hotels; 101 Things to Do San Diego; Houssam Aboukhater, who is a 1993 USD graduate, and Torrey Pines Bank … Toward Maximum Independence raised more than $40,000 at the inaugural 5K for Independence foot race. Nearly 400 runners, some from as far away as upstate New York and Pennsylvania, participated in the event which featured former KGTV “10News” anchor Carol Le Beau as honorary chairwoman. Proceeds will support TMI’s programs and services for it clients living with developmental disabilities … The Oceanside Museum of Art, Center for Community Solutions and Pro Kids —The First Tee of San Diego each received a $5,000 cash grant and in-kind donation consulting services through First Foundation’s Supporting Our Communities program. “This is about working collaboratively with worthy causes in Southern California to help them grow and sustain their growth,” said Doug Freeman, senior managing director of First Foundation Advisors. “It means assistance in fundraising, donor cultivation, board building, development of critical policies and protocols, organizational planning and best practices in cash management and investment policies, procedures and strategies” … Casa de Amparo raised more than $50,000 at its 14th annual FORE the Casa Kids Golf Tournament. More than 100 golfers participated in the event, which was held at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos. Sponsors included FDR Construction, Grant General Contractors, Wells Fargo, Bassett, be.group, Sony Computer Entertainment America, and McCarthy Construction. The event featured a seated dinner, cocktail reception and silent and live auctions. The funds raised will benefit Casa de Amparo’s programs and services helping children and families affected by — or at risk of — child abuse or neglect … Feral Cat Coalition of San Diego received a $10,000 grant from the Petco Foundation. The funds will be used to help pay for a series of spay/neuter clinics to serve stray and abandoned cats. “This grant is especially significant because it will allow us to focus our spay/neuter efforts on the areas of San Diego County where they are needed most,” said Mary Davis, the group’s president. “The Petco Foundation’s support means we can expect to see a sharp decrease in feral cat euthanasia rates at our county shelters.”
