SeaWorld San Diego has ridden its new Manta roller coaster attraction to its first Turnstile Award, given out annually by the theme park industry magazine Amusement Today.
Annual honors were bestowed during the recent Golden Ticket Award ceremony held at Dollywood amusement park in Tennessee. Awards are given out by the magazine in several categories, according to a statement from SeaWorld San Diego.
“Today’s technology can make visions never achieved in past decades a reality and do it with ease and grace,” the magazine said of Manta, which opened to the public on May 26.
SeaWorld officials said more than 1.1 million guests have ridden the double-launch, manta ray-themed coaster since its debut. More than 15,600 guests rode it on a single day on July 29.
“The response to Manta by our guests has been overwhelming,” said John Reilly, president of the Mission Bay marine-life park.
