Gwendolyn Meyer, director of Aqualia Foundation, and the Meyer Family are sponsoring an inaugural fundraising gala to benefit Feeding America San Diego on Oct. 13. The event is being held at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. All of the funds raised will go directly to programs at Feeding America. Master of ceremonies is Larry King, and Grammy winner Sheryl Crow will perform at “Sunset Soiree.” Meyer has been instrumental in shaping the direction of FASD since the organization was founded in 2007… Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation received a $25,000 contribution to support the 2013 Charity Ball from Union Bank. The check was presented to Chair Nancie Geller and the foundation’s Interim Executive Director Carol Damon-Scherer. Since 1996, Union Bank has donated $500,000 to Rady Children’s to support a number of programs including the Charity Ball … The Annual UCP Golf Classic was held at The Crossings at Carlsbad golf course. The event raised $70,000 for United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County. Rite Aid Pharmacy was the title sponsor and associate sponsors included TaylorMade Adidas Golf, Solar Turbines, Union Bank, Interior Specialists, Rossin Steel and Location Edit. The funds raised are used for local program services that UCP provides … The Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation awarded The Salvation Army’s Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center $20,000 to support the new literacy curriculum and technology that will be offered at RJ’s Preschool Academy during its second year of instruction. Beginning in 2013, the preschool will offer new innovative teaching models and technology that will help children to read and write. The new curriculum will also now offer children in this neighborhood the same access to quality early childhood education that is available in the best neighborhoods in the county … The 13th annual FORE the Casa Kids golf tournament was held at Maderas Golf Club in Poway. The $58,000 raised will help fund Casa de Amparo’s programs and services helping San Diego’s abused and neglected children as well as their families. Event partners included Grant General Contractors, Wells Fargo Bank, Bassett Furniture, FDR Construction and Sprouts … San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne is being honored as the National Alliance on Mental Illness San Diego 2012 Inspirational Person of the Year. He will accept the award on behalf of the entire San Diego Police Department at the NAMI annual Inspirational Awards dinner on Oct. 16. In addition to Chief Lansdowne’s award, other awards will be presented to people and organizations who have contributed to the mental health community. The dinner is scheduled to be held at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina … Hospice of the North Coast received a $22,000 grant from the Howard Charitable Foundation to expand its marketing and publicity efforts throughout its North County service area. HNC Director of Fund Development Shelly Dew reports, “The Howard grant-funded efforts have increased our visibility in the community substantially. We have seen a marked increase in the number of people attending our events.” … Oceanside Boys & Girls Club hosted its 7th annual Golf Tournament recently at Arrowood Golf Course. The tournament was sponsored by Erickson-Hall Construction and the Toll Brothers at Arrowood … Comerica Bank donated $25,000 to UPAC (Union of Pan Asian Communities) to assist its economic development program, a small business development program that provides information and access to referral sources and technical assistance to help low to moderate income individuals start and expand small businesses. Donald Kincey, public affairs vice president at Comerica presented the check to Margaret Iwanaga-Penrose, president and CEO of UPAC at a ceremony.
