The San Diego Humane Society 26th annual Fur Ball was held at the Gaines Street campus of SDHS and SPCA raising $500,000 to support the animals and programs of the SDHS and SPCA. Board member Dana DiFerdinando and her husband, Richard Crossland, greeted guests. Petco and the Petco Foundation, EDCO and Cynergy were sponsors of the evening. “The Fur Ball directly benefits animal welfare in our community. There is no other event in San Diego where the love and compassion that people have for animals is more visibly evident,” said Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of SDHS and SPCA…The Oceanside Charitable Foundation’s 4th Annual Grants Celebration was held recently awarding grants totaling $69,250 to three organizations. Those receiving grants were San Diego Coast Keeper’s Project SWELL — Stewardship: Water Education for Lifelong Leadership, $14,000; MiraCosta College’s STEM Camp, $30,000; and The Kid’s College’s STEM Extended Learning Enrichment Programs, $25,250. All of the programs promote science, technology, engineering and math education in Oceanside … Farmers Insurance and the Century Club of San Diego hosted a fundraising concert to benefit Monarch School and Pro Kids Academy/The First Tee San Diego. “Kickin’ It Country” raised $150,000 for the two charities. “This punctuates our strong commitment to supporting charities in the communities we serve,” said Chuck Browning, head of sponsorship and corporate giving for Farmers Insurance … The National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services programs annual STAR Award was presented to Dianne Sanders-Bradley, director of food service, Senior Community Centers. Sanders-Bradley has assisted low-income older adults for more than 30 years. The NANASP STAR Award honors a member for their outstanding contributions in the field of senior nutrition, for contributing to the development and growth of the profession and as a way to increase public awareness of the scope and importance of the issues facing older Americans … Takeda California hosted the 4th Annual Takeda Dog Walk. The event raised $30,000 for the San Diego affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The charity dog walk complements Takeda’s ongoing research efforts to find new treatments for cancer … Mini Golf For Good was held at Temple Adat Shalom raising $10,000 to help feed North County’s hungry and house the homeless. The money is being split between Interfaith Community Services; the community garden being jointly developed by ICS and Temple Adat Shalom to feed the homeless; and other community projects sponsored by the TAS Men’s Club … Fresh Start Surgical Gifts held its Surgery Weekend recently. Fifty children received medical assistance from volunteer medical professionals, staff and Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego … St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center held its 35th Annual Haute with Heart Fashion Show at Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel. The event raised $103,000 to help support the programs for people with developmental disabilities, their families and communities. The programs help them discover, explore, and nurture their full potential. Sponsors included Viejas, Barona Resort & Casino, Sycuan Casino, and the Sophie Center’s Auxiliary.
