The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will recognize 15 women at its 47th Women of Dedication luncheon set for March 28 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. The women are chosen for their commitment to serving those in need throughout San Diego County. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the Door of Hope Capital Campaign which provides for new facilities at the Transitional Living Center. All funds are matched by the challenge grant from the Joan T. Waitt Family Fund … The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA 2012 Building Change & Changing Lives annual support campaign had its kickoff recently at the Y. Campaign chairs Cheryl and Karl Gorman reported a kickoff record $131,434. The programs at the Y incorporate lessons on caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, offering kids a place to grow and families a place to belong … Bill Dougherty of Dougherty and Hildre and Blake VanderGeest of CareFusion were honored by the American Cancer Society with The Celebration of Life Award at the annual 2012 Distinguished Events Season reception at L’Auberge in Del Mar. The Celebration of Life Award acknowledges their personal battles against cancer and their inspiration to others. The San Diego Discovery Celebration and the San Diego Invitational are the scheduled events for the season. Proceeds from both events will benefit the American Cancer Society’s research program, public education and patient services … The 2012 San Diego Latino Champion Awards Ceremony is set for March 29 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Categories include a Luminary Award, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Teacher, Business and Civic Leader awards. The event is sponsored by U-T San Diego, Southwest Airlines, Macy’s, Jerome’s Furniture and Cox … Tom Freeley raised $4,700 for Sharp HospiceCare in La Mesa at the PolaRotary Plunge in Lake Arrowhead. Freeley raised $22,000, a portion of which went to the Lake Arrowhead Rotary Club and the remainder going to various charities … He was one of 60 participants to brave the lake’s 45-degree temperatures … The 103rd Anniversary Charity Ball raised $260,000 for the Trauma Care Center at the Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. Most trauma patients under the age of 15 in San Diego and Imperial counties are transported to Rady Children’s for the specialized pediatric trauma care … The San Diego Police Foundation is set to sponsor the Women in Blue luncheon on March 13 at the Doubletree in Mission Valley. Sarah Creighton, captain of the San Diego Police Department Wellness Unit; Natalie Gore, a former FBI Special Agent; and Pam Scanlon, executive director, ARJIS will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in nontraditional careers. The event is being sponsored by Wells Fargo … Girl Scouts San Diego is honoring Sue and John Major at the 2012 Promise Circle and Legacy Circle Recognition event which is set for March 14 at Bloomingdale’s Fashion Valley. The Majors are being recognized for their contributions to Girl Scouts. In addition to covering the day-to-day needs of maintaining property and facilities, Promise Circle contributions ensure every girl has the opportunity to go to camp, and it funds a variety of programs while providing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls each year … The 11th Annual San Diego County Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony was set to be held at NTC. Ingrid Croce received the Spirit Award and five other women were inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame. Sempra Energy and KPBS sponsored the event in honor of Women’s History Month.
