San Diego-based general contractor T.B. Penick & Sons Inc. has been awarded a task order of approximately $18.2 million to design and build a child development center at Marine Corps Air Ground Center, at Twentynine Palms.
A June 5 statement from the U.S. Defense Department said the project at the San Bernardino County base includes a new facility for infants, toddlers and other preschool-aged children of military and civilian personnel.
The firm-fixed-price order is part of a previous multiple-award construction contract. It contains one planned modification which, if exercised, would increase the cumulative task order value to just over $19.3 million, the statement said.
Work will be performed at Twentynine Palms and is expected to be completed by December 2013. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest in San Diego was the contracting entity, and received eight proposals for the task order.
