The University of San Diego received a $7 million donation from J. Robert Beyster, founder of SAIC, and his wife Betty to fund the Betty and Bob Beyster Institute for Nursing Research, Advanced Practice, and Simulation. Their gift covers half the costs of a $15 million project to create the foundation for the nation’s first institute for nursing research. “We are very encouraged by the work the USD school of nursing is doing to dramatically increase the number of nursing educators. We want to help the school further their work in this area and expand its teaching research facilities,” said Betty Beyster. “There is still so much work to do, and so we hope our gift will inspire others to contribute to the school and help them dramatically increase the number of advanced practice registered nurses, nurse educators and nurse scientists in our region,” said Beyster. “The Beysters understand the importance of nursing research and advanced practice for the future of health care for San Diego, for all of California and for the country,” said Sally Brosz Hardin, dean of the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science … The Boppy Co., makers of feeding and infant support pillows, partnered with the Nurse-Family Partnership organization to support at-risk moms on Mother’s Day by donating Boppy Pillows. Boppy pledged $1 for every click it received for the Boppy Mother’s Day Support Program via the company’s website. Through this program the company was able to gift 200 Boppy Pillows to new San Diego moms who are involved with the Nurse-Family Partnership organization …The Ford Motor Co. and the Ford Motor Company Fund are working with the San Diego County Ford Dealers to support military outreach, disaster readiness, hunger, health and education programs. Some of the programs receiving support are Veterans Village and the National Veterans Transition Services. Ford is helping service members returning from combat transition back to civilian life as well as funding the fuel for the Meals on Wheels food delivery vans for an entire year … Anthem Blue Cross donated 350 Apple iPads to service members who are recovering from combat injuries in the San Diego area. The iPads were presented at the San Diego Armed Services YMCA. “We have a duty to take care of those who have been injured while fighting for our country,” said Steve Scott, vice president of Anthem Blue Cross. “At Anthem Blue Cross, our mission is to help our members get healthy and stay healthy. We sincerely hope these iPads will help some of the military heroes get healthy and stay healthy.” … San Diego Social Venture Partners has selected Barrio Logan College Institute and ProKids to receive $75,000 over three years. SDSVP is also dedicating hundreds of hours of expert consultation to help build the groups’ infrastructures and ensure their continued viability and success for years to come. BLCI is focused on promoting the pursuit of higher education for Latino students in the low-income community of San Diego. Pro Kids’ mission is to challenge underserved youth to excel in life by promoting character development, life skills and values through education and the game of golf … Rosner Brown Touchstone & Keller hosted a golf tournament at Sea ’N Air Golf Course on Naval Air Station North Island. The event was a celebration of RBTK’s 30 years in business and raised $12,000 to benefit the Wounded Warriors and Bayside Community Center. Sponsors included Alliant Insurance, Atlas Mechanical, Cherry Creek Mortgage and CNA Surety.
