The Douglas E. and Nancy J. Barnhart Charitable Foundation contributed $1 million to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for The Douglas & Nancy Barnhart Cancer Center at the Chula Vista location. Douglas Barnhart’s construction portfolio includes projects such as Petco Park, San Diego International Airport and Chargers Training Stadium. “We’re fortunate to have partners as giving and passionate as Doug and Nancy, who truly believe in the impact this facility will have on cancer care in San Diego,” said Bill Littlejohn, senior vice president and CEO of the Sharp HealthCare Foundation. “Being diagnosed with cancer is a pretty good kick in the stomach,” Barnhart said. “I became involved with the Cancer Center because I wanted to make it a place for patients like me.” … The Arc San Diego Foundation presented its Circle of Light awards to top donors at their annual Meeting & Recognition Luncheon. The awardees included Circle of Light Silver Awards to Phyllis and John Parrish and FCE Benefits Administrators. Bronze Award recipients included Alfred and Elaine Barrack, Las Patronas, The Parker Foundation, and The Hervey Family Fund at The San Diego Foundation. “With their kind support, The Arc of San Diego is able to operate at its fullest potential as the county’s largest nonprofit providing assistance to children and adults living with disabilities,” said Jim Reynolds, chairman of the group … Sullivan Solar Power was named Small Business of the Year at the Celebration of Business Gala hosted by San Diego North Chamber of Commerce. “This prestigious recognition can be attributed to my team’s hard work and the ongoing support for renewable energy by the region,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power … The Don Diego Scholarship Foundation’s dinner and concert gala was held at the San Diego County Fair. Proceeds from the evening support annual $5,000 scholarships to outstanding San Diego County high school seniors who have participated in the fair and other activities associated with the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The award is one of the top honors given by the AHA to volunteers in the Western States Affiliate. Ostrander was recognized for his distinguished commitment to the AHA mission. “Dr. Ostrander has made such a significant impact in the heart health of all San Diegans,” said James Dunford, president, AHA San Diego Division Board of Directors … The LPL Financial Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of LPL Financial, has awarded a $10,000 scholarship to California State University San Marcos junior Mario Clay. Clay, a junior business major is a Marine Corps veteran. This is the single largest scholarship granted to any student in CSUSM’s 22-year history … The San Diego Padres announced the recipient of the second Hispanic Heritage Comunidad Award. Armando Catano, a teacher at Monroe Clark Middle School in City Heights, has been selected by members of the Padres’ Hispanic Community Leadership Council (HCLC) for his dedication to improving the lives of youth, specifically in the area of education. He was honored in a pregame event. The Padres recognized Catano for his leadership both inside and outside the classroom … Carlsbad-based creative agency Elevator was named a winner of two awards at the June 27 AMY Awards celebration hosted by the American Marketing Association — San Diego Chapter. Elevator won the Marketer of the Year award and also the New Product/Services Launch category. Each year, the AMY Awards recognize corporate and agency marketing professionals who have left an impression on the industry with innovation and outstanding results in marketing campaigns.
