San Diego Opera’s 47th season is scheduled to open Jan. 28 with the Richard Strauss tour de force “Salome.” U.S. Bank is the corporate producing sponsor with a $30,000 contribution. Other sponsors for the season include Attorney Courtney Ann Coyle, Northern Trust and Wells Fargo. The Qualcomm Foundation contributed $100,000 to sponsor opera education and JP Morgan Chase is supporting the in-school artist residencies and the Community Conversations program. The opera season runs through April of this year … San Diego Chargers kicker Nick Novak made a donation to the American Cancer Society for each successful field goal kick this season in honor of his friend Annie who died of breast and ovarian cancer. His gift was matched by his agent Chad Wiestling and by Chargers owners Susie and Dean Spanos. Novak has had 27 successful kicks, two of which came after his Dec. 21 press conference when John Brannelly, corporate relations market director of ACS accepted a $7,500 check. Eleven of the field goal kicks were 40 yards or longer which set a franchise record … The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation distributed $67,500 at their annual Gift Giving Ceremony at Sycuan Casino. Recipients included Big Brothers Big Sisters, the YWCA Becky’s House, the Indian Human Resource Center and San Diego Hospice. Additional gifts included $25,000 to the Senior Community Centers and $10,000 to the Monarch School … AT&T donated $5,000 to Paws’itive Teams, an organization that trains service dogs to assist mobility-limited persons in achieving greater independence. The check was presented Dec. 11 at the AT&T booth during the 4th annual Gaslamp Pet Parade. The funds will be used to train an 11-week old golden retriever to be a service dog … The San Diego County Ford Dealers Association has provided $15,000 to Combined Health Agencies to start a new program called Fordify The Family. The program specifically supports camps for children, respite care programs and support groups. Members of Combined Health Agencies are eligible to apply for funds through the Fordify The Family program for additional support of a specific program … San Diego Symphony honored Audrey Geisel at the West Coast premiere of “The Sneetches” by composer Lorenzo Palomo on Jan. 17 at the Neurosciences Institute. The concert began with a performance by the San Diego Symphony String Quartet followed by a featured performance of “The Sneetches” by Music Director Jahja Ling.
