Orange 21 Inc., a sports-oriented eyewear maker and marketer with headquarters in Carlsbad, has officially changed its corporate name to Spy Inc.

The company announced Feb. 10 that the change is effective Feb. 15. A statement said the firm has also received preliminary approval to change its over-the-counter stock symbol from ORNG to XSPY.

The firm said it expects to begin trading under the new symbol on or about Feb. 15, and outstanding certificates for stock shares are not impacted by the name change.

“The changing of our company name back to Spy harks to the business’s renewed focus on its most important and valuable asset — the Spy brand,” said Chief Executive Officer Michael Marckx. “The company’s design, marketing, financial resources and psychic energy are now singularly concentrated on Spy.”

The company designs, develops and produces action sports-related eyewear under the brands Spy, Spy Optic, Spy Performance and Spy Rx.

The company said it has ceased new purchase orders of additional inventory for brands including O’Neill, Melodies by MJB and Margaritaville.
