Anaheim-based grocer Northgate Gonzalez Markets, which caters to the Latino community, plans to open its eighth San Diego County store Dec. 12 in San Diego’s Barrio Logan community.

A public ground-breaking ceremony with company and city officials is scheduled for 8 a.m., according to a company statement.

The new market, at the corner of Cesar Chavez Parkway and Main Street, is part of the larger mixed-use Mercado del Barrio, a new development that includes apartments and other retail elements.

Northgate Gonzalez is a family-owned company, established in 1980, currently operating 36 stores in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties.
