San Diego Regional Fire Foundation held its 2012 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year and Grants Awards ceremony recently. Susan Raimond was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She serves as assistant chief of the Mount Laguna Volunteer Fire Department. Her leadership and management skills have guided and grown MLVFD from a team of two to a contingent of 50 men and women. The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation was formed in 1989 to improve the system of fire and emergency services in San Diego County. Today, there are 30 fire stations staffed by volunteer firefighters, which protect over 60 percent of the county. The SDRFF also presented $278,000 in grants to fire agencies in rural San Diego… Junior Achievement of San Diego and Imperial Counties raised $268,000 at its annual San Diego Business Hall of Fame. Linn lost her husband in 2003 during the Iraq War. She, along with a group of other surviving spouses, formed the SSSG to reach out to the spouses in need in the military community of San Diego. As president and CEO of SSSG, Linn ensures that surviving spouses have free access to the support group.
