In addition to her involvement with Scripps Encinitas, she is a longtime supporter of women’s health issues and organizations … The Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista received a $25,000 grant from Wells Fargo. The funds will be used to support the exhibit “Washed Ashore: Plastics, Sea Life & Art.” The exhibit includes more than a dozen original art pieces made entirely from thousands of pounds of plastic marine debris collected by hundreds of community volunteers along the Oregon coastline … Barrio Logan College Institute received a $5,000 contribution from the Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association to support the college prep programs. Qualcomm donated $15,000 to support the “Countdown to College Program” that provides SAT prep and guidance with college selection and financial aid. In addition, scholarship contributions were received from Sagient Research Systems, Raytheon, HOLA (Hispanic employee group) and Aetna Insurance … Three San Diegans were presented with Vision Awards from the California Association of Community Managers at its annual EXPO and Conference held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Kingsley McLaren, Prescott Cos.; Howard Silldorf, Silldorf & Levine; and Erika Sosa, ARK Management were recognized for outstanding service in the world of community association management. McLaren won the President’s Award for his service to CACM, including volunteering as a member of the CACM faculty … San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine received a $997,791 grant from Open Society Foundations for the International Palliative Care Leadership Development Institute, supporting 20 physician fellows who will be responsible for advancing palliative care in their home countries. A $300,000 grant was received from the Dr. Seuss Foundation at The San Diego Foundation to support the Palliative Medicine Physician Fellowship Program. “The funds are going to have a significant positive impact on the lives of literally thousands of patients and families who will count on the doctors we train for care,” said Kathleen Pacurar, president and CEO of San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine … The San Dieguito Boys & Girls Clubs will receive school supplies collected by Staples from their 5th annual Staples for Students national school supply drive to help kids in need. Supplies are being collected at Staples locations in San Diego through Sept.15 … U.S. Bank volunteers handed out school supplies to military families recently at the National Guard Armory. The 2012 Back to School Brigade organized by Operation Homefront provides school supplies to 700 children … The Glenner Memory Care Centers received a $10,000 gift from the Philip M. Klauber Endowment Fund to enhance staff and board development at the organization. The primary purpose of the fund shall be to strengthen activities of existing nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on board and staff development, according to the endowment which is administered through The San Diego Foundation.
