San Diego Opera has named Faye Wilson a “Life Director” of the opera. Wilson is the fifth Life Director in the 47 year history of the opera. She joined the opera board in 1992 as a corporate representative of Security Pacific/Bank of America. She served as president of the board from 1996 to 1998 and has continued to serve on the Audit Committee. Wilson is the CEO and co-founder of Wilson Boyles & Co., a business management consulting company. “When I consider the joy this company has given me, my family, my friends and the community, I am the one who should be honoring San Diego Opera and all who are responsible for making it the center of excellence that it is,” said Wilson … The Nordstrom Designer Preview show was held at The Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier. Promises2Kids was the beneficiary of the $75,000 raised which will support programs to fight against child abuse and provide support for foster children … PCL Construction delivered 80 Easter baskets to the YWCA of San Diego County to benefit the children living in the shelters at Becky’s House, Cortez Hill Family Center and the YWCA Emergency Shelter. The donation was made possible by the PCL employees, Gafcon, A&S Flooring, Pecoraro, Johnson, Finch & McClure, Best Interiors, Division 8, and ISEC. The Y has focused their programs to serve homeless women and families, as well as victims of domestic violence … Kaiser Permanente partnered with the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation to provide medical treatments to 32 uninsured adults. Kaiser nurses, physicians, pharmacists and other volunteer staff provided medical care including cataract surgeries and hernia operations through Project Access, which focuses on improving health and changing lives. After receiving medical care, the patients are able to get back to work to provide for their families … SPY Optic’s inaugural Belgian Waffle Race was held recently. It began with an authentic Belgian waffle breakfast that was followed by a 20-mile processional bike ride through Carlsbad and Oceanside and concluded with a 100 mile ride through North County. All of the entre fees went to benefit the UC San Diego EyeMobile for Children at the Shiley Eye Center, a mobile eye exam and care resource for underprivileged youth. SPY CEO Michael Marckx was inspired by his Belgian roots and the cycling season traditions of Europe to create this race … Joel Garcia, principal of Monarch School, was honored for his inspirational work at the school during a recent episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” He was also presented with a $50,000 donation for Monarch School. “It was such a huge honor to be on the show, and I am thrilled for all the opportunities this will bring to our students,” said Garcia. A crew from the show visited Monarch to film the students during their daily activities. Garcia was then invited to attend a show taping and was surprised when Ellen DeGeneres invited him on stage and presented the $50,000 check for Monarch. The gift from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and Skype will help Monarch provide “wrap-around” services that make its program so unique … Cassidy Turley assembled and donated 40 bikes to the YMCA of San Diego County as part of the company’s heightened focus on community outreach. Cassidy Turley professionals participated in the interactive charity event and built all 40 bikes in less than one hour. The company partnered with RIDE Cyclery and SKLZ on the project. RIDE Cyclery donated a portion of the bike parts, and SKLZ donated the helmets to accompany the bikes … Cinderella’s Attic gave away 150 prom dresses to high school girls in need at its Prom Boutique. Cinderella’s Attic teamed up with the Friends of Scott Foundation offering over 100 dresses for girls attending the “Unforgettable Prom,” an event for children with cancer who can’t attend their regular school prom. The 2012 Prom Boutique was held at the Hilton Hotel San Diego Mission Valley.
