In celebration of the 160th anniversary, Wells Fargo has donated a total of $160,000 to organizations in the counties of San Diego and Riverside. San Diego organizations benefiting are: Father Joe’s Villages, a program which helps homeless “neighbors in need” regain their lives through a unique life-changing program, received $50,000; Operation Homefront received $30,000 for emergency financial and other types of assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors; Housing Opportunities Collaborative, an organization that conducts outreach events to educate and provide housing counseling services to the public, received $30,000. In addition, Oceanside based-Semper Fi Fund, which was set up to provide immediate financial support for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, will receive $30,000. To celebrate their 160th anniversary, Wells Fargo San Diego team members will volunteer 160 hours on April 21 with The Mission Continues nonprofit … The American Heart Association held its annual Go Red for Women luncheon at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. AHA board member Susan Mahler and emcee Barbara-Lee Edwards greeted 400 guests who were in attendance to help raise $350,000 for research and community education. Sponsors included Datron, SDG&E, HD Supply, GreatCall, Anthem Blue Cross and Barona Band of Mission Indians … SDG&E gave a $30,000 grant to Barrio Logan College Institute toward the Civic Leadership Collaborative, a partnership with MANA de San Diego designed to prepare students at BLCI to be agents of change in their communities. The SDG&E grant is part of their Excellence in Civic Leadership initiative. MANA de San Diego assists young girls and women by providing them with the skills, tools and the support they need to succeed. BLCI prepares students with the education they need to be leaders. MANA de San Diego also provides mentors for BLCI girls who are already leaders in the community … Mothers Against Drunk Driving held its annual recognition ceremony honoring San Diego County’s outstanding DUI officers of the year, prosecutors and community leaders. The event was held at the Town and Country Resort & Conference Center. The Gomez Law Firm was the presenting sponsor. “We are proud to partner with MADD in celebrating our local heroes who make great sacrifices in an effort to protect our families from drunk driving,” said John Gomez, founder of The Gomez Law Firm … The Corky McMillin Cos. is the Presenting Sponsor of The American Cancer Society’s 2012 San Diego Invitational Golf Tournament which is being held on May 21 at La Costa Resort & Spa’s Champions Course. All proceeds will benefit cancer research, programs and services of ACS for cancer patients and their families … The San Diego Armed Services YMCA held its 16th annual golf classic at the Sycuan Golf and Tennis Resort. The event raised $45,000 which will support programs that benefit local military families. In addition to Sycuan Resort, sponsors included Gilbert Martin Foundation, Sutherland Management and Booz Allen Hamilton … The 2012 Heart of San Diego Gala benefiting UC San Diego’s Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center was a success. The event, “An Affair to Remember,” raised $390,000 to underwrite the purchase of a new da Vinci Surgical System for the performance of robotic, minimally-invasive cardiovascular procedures. Sponsors for the event included Life Technologies, Jerome’s Furniture, CA Technologies, Emerald Textiles and Epic Systems.
