Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced a two-year, $250,000 grant to Operation Homefront for supportive transitional housing and support services for wounded service members, recently returning service members and their families. Operation Homefront Village housing facility serving Southern California held its grand opening April 28 at its Oceanside location. Rick Bregman, Bank of America’s San Diego market president, was on hand with Jim Knotts, Operation Homefront president and chief executive officer, to announce the gift. The financial support from Bank of America helps to continue programs for wounded and returning military service members and their families. Bank of America employees also donate their time volunteering for military-related causes … Eight homes and a VFW post benefited from Rebuilding Together San Diego’s home rehab program on April 30. The annual April event is held to help elderly, disabled families with children and military veterans. The event is made possible with the help of 750 volunteers and sponsorships from LPL Financial, Home Depot, Choice Hotels, Turner Construction, Lowe’s and Clark Construction … The Parkinson’s 5K Walk and Fun Run was held on April 16 at NTC Park at Liberty Station. A record $225,000 was raised to be used for research for a cure for Parkinson’s disease and toward funding family and patient programs and services. The Corky McMillin Cos., Liberty Station, Sunset Press, Petco Foundation and San Diego County Credit Union were sponsors for the day … The Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa hosted its 38th annual Easter Egg Hunt for Easter Seals Southern California on April 23. Children with autism and other developmental disabilities searched for 6,000 candy-filled eggs followed by lunch and a visit from SeaWorld characters and entertainment from the Al Bahr Shrine clowns … The Escondido East Rotary 5340 held its annual deep pit barbecue on May 14 at Kit Carson Park. The Rotary recognized Operation America Cares for its service to U.S. troops deployed overseas. Members of military families were guests of the Rotary Club … The Cox Celebrity Championship hosted by Drew Brees was scheduled to be held the weekend of May 20 at Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe. The Sixth Annual Military Appreciation Day, presented by TriWest Healthcare Alliance, was set to be held May 22. Carl’s Jr. provided lunch to military families and free haircuts were provided by Sport Clips. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, auction proceeds and sponsor sales were donated to The Brees Dream Foundation and distributed among San Diego charities ... Harrah’s Rincon Hottest Dog Contest was held April 17 at Harrah’s Casino. The contest was sponsored by Harrah’s and Pink’s Hot Dogs to benefit the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA … Employees at the H.J. Heinz Co.’s San Diego factory donated $10,000 to the Barrio Logan College Institute and the San Diego Rescue Mission. BLCI is using the donation to promote the pursuit of higher education for students who are traditionally underrepresented in college. The Rescue Mission will use funds to serve those in need within the community and to improve the quality of life … Landmark Aviation donated $75,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities through its “Landmark Cares” corporate social responsibility initiative. The gift will support the RMHSD’s efforts to provide a home for families with sick children being treated at local hospitals. Landmark has also agreed to commit future Landmark Cares funds to RMHSD.
