Bridgepoint Education is the title sponsor of the San Diego Symphony Summer Pops series which opens June 30. Andrew Clark, CEO of Bridgepoint, and his wife, Catherine, are honorary chairs of the Tux ’n’ Tennies Summer Bash June 25 at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. San Diego Rotary District 5340 has partnered with the symphony to kick off its Centennial Year Celebration. Proceeds from the evening will go toward the symphony’s music education programs which benefited over 42,000 students last year. Bridgepoint Education has focused on supporting music education and has made $100,000 challenge grants to the symphony for the past several years. Bridgepoint is offering a similar challenge grant this year … AMN Healthcare has been a corporate sponsor of the Komen Race for the Cure in San Diego since 1997. In addition to financial support, hundreds of AMN team members have been participating in the race, helping raise awareness and money for the cause. They also hosted the recent Komen awards ceremony at their headquarters … WD-40 sponsored a 10 cent per can donation campaign from the WD-40 Military Collectible Series, a series of four specially designed cans that honor those who serve or have served in uniform. On May 30, the company donated proceeds from the campaign to three military charities to honor the men and women of the military and help support their families. This will be the third hospice home in the South Bay area. “My wife and I recently went though Sharp Hospice Care’s program with a loved one at LakeView home in La Mesa,” said McMillin. “This experience left us with a sense of comfort and well-being, and a strong desire to bring this service to the South Bay community.” … The Viejas Fire Department Division Chief Bob Pfohl received the 2011 Pamela R. Kelly Volunteer of the Year Award from the Burn Institute of San Diego. The award was presented at the Burn Institute’s annual Spirit of Courage Awards Banquet held May 26. Pohl was recognized for his years of dedication, support and service to the institute … Rancho Santa Fe Women’s Fund and Toms Shoes provided shoes to the children of young military families. Shoes were distributed as part of the nonprofit group Military Outreach Ministry Camp Pendleton… The Salk Institute for Biological Studies’ Educational Outreach program was honored on May 25 by the San Diego Unified School District as a 20-year Partner in Education. “Our scientists are passionate about their field of study and enjoy sharing it with young people, and this enthusiasm is often a key factor in changing students’ perceptions about science,” said Ellen Potter, director of the EOP … The Seany Foundation hosted the Swinging for Seany Golf Tournament May 23 at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. The $55,000 raised will go toward programs and research to improve the lives of children and teens battling cancer. University Compounding Pharmacy was the title sponsor of the tournament … Harney Sushi donated $1,000 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness North Coastal San Diego County Division. The funds were raised by selling NAMI rolls during the month of May and donating $2 of the $15 price.
