Senior Community Centers received a three-year $400,000 grant from the Leichtag Family Foundation to create and implement the Seniors First San Diego public awareness campaign focused on issues related to low-income seniors, such as ageism, nutrition, senior housing, senior abuse, and Social Security. “The foundation shares our vision that combating ageism, promoting positive depictions of aging, and helping seniors advocate for themselves are important works. We are deeply appreciative of the Leichtag Family Foundation for its extraordinarily generous commitment to Senior Community Centers,” said Paul Downey, CEO and president … The San Diego Armed Services YMCA was a beneficiary of the Stars & Stripes Fishing, Golf and Music Festival held in Laguna Beach on June 23-26. Gary Anderson Family Foundation … Barrio Logan College Institute received a $25,000 contribution from Wells Fargo to support the college prep programs for disadvantaged kids. AMY award winners included Fishtank Brand Advertising, Aviatech, Red Door Interactive, and Sandag … Three San Diegans were among the five California students who received Achievement Awards from Geico. Daniel Beeunas, San Diego, Joseph Silva, Chula Vista and Curtis Choe, Solana Beach each received $1,000 for next year’s educational pursuits. The Geico awards are given to students who have excelled academically in business, computer science, mathematics or a related program … The Center for Community Solutions held its 12th annual Tea on the Town on June 21 at the Marriott Mission Valley. Victor Rivas Rivers, author of The New York Times best-selling book, “A Private Family Matter,” was the keynote speaker. Verna Griffin-Tabor, executive director, said, “The $170,000 raised will benefit CCS’s full range of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse prevention programs. ProFlowers was recognized as its 2011 Corporate Partner of the Year. HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, Nordstrom and The California Endowment were premier sponsors … The Boys and Girls Foundation gave a $3,000 grant to the Center for Compassionate Care of The Elizabeth Hospice to purchase therapy supplies and materials for grief and loss counseling in North County K-12 schools … The San Diego Armed Services YMCA held its Christmas You Missed event on July 18. Military families that were separated by deployment during the 2010 holiday season were invited to celebrate the “2010 holiday season.” Barona Resort and Casino was the sponsor for the event and Souplantation served a holiday breakfast … The H&M Store opened on June 30 in Carlsbad. To celebrate the opening, H&M partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, bringing 30 children to the store for a private shopping spree. In addition to donating $2,500 in gift cards, H&M also provided a $2,500 grant to the club to support its programs.
