Casino Agrees to Promotional Deal With State Lottery

In a groundbreaking move, Viejas Enterprises and the California State Lottery will be promoting each other’s products. The state and the American Indian-owned casino announced Jan. 31 that they had inked a cross-promotional agreement. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

It marks the first time the California Lottery has partnered with a casino in the state.

The deal boils down to each party providing extra prizes for the other’s customers, said California Lottery spokesman Bill Ainsworth.

Ainsworth said the agreement “just came together with Viejas.”

He added, “We worked out a deal that is good for both parties.”

He said the lottery is “open to future possibilities” with Viejas or other American Indian tribes.

Under the deal, which lasts through February, state lottery players will be able to get free play at a certain game inside Viejas Casino, while Viejas Casino guests will have new opportunities to play the lottery.

For example, a person who spends at least $5 on a Mega Millions ticket at San Diego County retailers will get a chance to play at the Mega Machine kiosk, physically located at the casino.

There will be weekly second chance drawings for Mega Millions players through February at Viejas Casino.
