The San Diego Business Journal Women Who Mean Business Awards luncheon was held on Oct. 28 at the Town and Country Resort Hotel & Conference Center. Awards were presented to 31 women along with four special awards which included a Lifetime Achievement Award to Darlene Shiley. Guests contributed $14,260 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization ... The 38th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon was held on Nov. 3 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Awards were presented in seven categories which included Malin Burnham as Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer, San Diego Chargers as Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation and Harvey and Sheryl White as Outstanding Philanthropists … AT&T Foundation presented $100,000 to Lead San Diego to provide new technology infrastructure and scholarship dollars for emerging women and minority communities for various programs. “AT&T’s contribution to Lead highlights two important pillars of our corporate giving — promoting the use of technology and supporting the advancement of women and diverse populations,” said Mark Leslie, vice president of external affairs of AT&T … The Asian Business Association held its 20th anniversary awards gala on Nov. 18 at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter. Four students were selected based on their academic and community achievements and will receive $1,000 scholarships to be used toward furthering their educational goals … The 48th Annual Downtown San Diego Partnership Alonzo Awards were presented on Nov. 3 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The awards are presented in recognition of those efforts that have contributed significantly to the enhancement and enrichment of downtown San Diego during the past year. Winners included Jim Dawe with the Founders Award; Distinguished Alonzo Award, San Diego Symphony; and the Chairman’s Award to Robin Munro … Wells Fargo presented the San Diego Learning Center with the 2010 Wells Fargo Southern California Hispanic Business of the Year Award. Jesseca Saenz-Gonzalez, founder and president, was presented with the award and a $5,000 prize which will be used to provide scholarships to assist local students with educational costs … The San Diego Redevelopment Agency and Urban Corps San Diego held a community cleanup in Barrio Logan on Nov. 6. The Green Street program featured the renovation of 14 homes for low-income residents in Barrio Logan … Pacific Beach resident Amanda Sousa received the San Diego Coastkeeper Volunteer of the Year Award and was inducted into the group’s Hall of Fame on Nov. 6. … Independent Financial Group LLC has chosen the Mitchell Thorp Foundation as its 2010 organization to support. Independent’s chief executive officer/managing director presented a $7,500 check to Beth and Brad Thorp to support the work they do on behalf of children facing life threatening illnesses, diseases and disorders … Petco Animal Supplies Inc. launched the Pet Food Bank program in March. More than 1,000 stores have partnered with local food banks or animal welfare groups to donate pet food. The Petco Foundation and Petco hosted their National Pet Food Drive from Nov. 5 through Nov. 14. The initiative has provided more than 110 tons of pet food and litter to those in need … Union Bank and KPBS were partners in celebrating Hispanic Heritage and American Indian Heritage months. Four San Diegans were honored as part of their 13th Annual Local Heroes Awards program. The Hispanic Heritage month honorees are Gracia Molina Enriquez de Pick and Carolina Alcoser Ramos. The American Indian Heritage month honorees are Harry Paul Cuero Jr. and Dwight Kala Lomayesva.
