Voices for Children received a $1 million grant from the Leichtag Family Foundation which will be paid out over a three-year period and coincides with Voices’ 30th anniversary in service to San Diego foster children. Grant funds will allow for program growth as well as expansion of fundraising capacity and agency infrastructure. Lee and Toni Leichtag were founders of VFC along with their daughter Joli Ann Leichtag, all of whom are deceased now. “Lee and Toni had a long-standing interest in our agency and especially our foster children, reflecting their caring concern about and for people in need,” said Sharon Lawrence, president/CEO of VFC … The North County Solutions for Change of Vista held their Finding Our Way Home Benefit Concert on Oct. 16. Mark King, CEO of Carlsbad-based TaylorMade, announced a $1 million gift to Solutions for Change to be used to solve family homelessness … The NTC Foundation received grants to advance Phase 2 of the development of the NTC Promenade civic, arts and cultural district at Liberty Station. The City of San Diego’s Redevelopment Agency pledged a $4 million capital grant and The Parker Foundation committed a $100,000, two-year grant to help subsidize the rents of qualifying nonprofit organizations that want to make their home at NTC Promenade … Carlsbad Educational Foundation held its 10th annual Golf Classic on Oct. 7 at The Crossings in Carlsbad. The event raised $67,000 for educational and enrichment programs. Life Technologies, Gafcon, Barnhart Balfour Beatty and TD Ameritrade were among the sponsors … The 21st Annual Vista Hill Gala held on Oct. 10 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine raised $220,000 for programs serving those with substance abuse problems, developmental disabilities and mental health issues … Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County raised $450,000 at the 48th Annual Gourmet Dinner on Oct. 21. LPL Financial was the evening’s sponsor. All proceeds support the local mentoring programs … The Escondido Charitable Foundation granted $135,450 to organizations that focus on keeping youth in school and out of trouble. Among those receiving grants were Escondido Union High School District, $25,000; Promises2Kids, $20,000; Tariq Khamisa Foundation, $21,000; and Ubiquitous Music Inc., $25,000. This is the largest grant funding in a single cycle for any of the regional foundations affiliated with The San Diego Foundation … The Ronald McDonald House fundraiser ROMP was held on Oct. 2. A record amount of $380,000 was raised to support RMHSD in serving families with hospitalized children. Ford Motor Co., San Diego County Ford Dealers, Barney & Barney, Rolex USA and Spyglass Entertainment were major sponsors … The American Society for Radiation Oncology honored Elizabeth Brunton of Scripps Clinic in La Jolla with the 2010 ASTRO Nurse Excellence Award on Oct. 31 at the 52nd annual meeting held in San Diego. She is the lead nurse and primary nurse in the radiation oncology department at Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital where she has worked since 1986. She was given a $1,000 grant during the nurse’s welcome and orientation luncheon … The Beckman Coulter Foundation granted $17,685 to North County Health Services which will be used to train clinic health educators about colon cancer screening. Funds will also support staff training costs and allow for the development of patient education materials. Beckman Counter also donated 500 Hemoccult ICT fecal immunochemical tests to North County Health Services to screen uninsured and underinsured patients free of charge for colorectal cancer … Scott Cappel, owner of Sorrento Mesa Printing, was named the 2010 Printer of the Year for its NAQP division by the National Association for Printing Leadership. The award was presented at the annual conference in Chicago. Cappel was recognized for his outstanding service and contributions to the association and to the industry.
