Barrio Logan College Institute, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and Home Start were recognized with Sun Life Rising Star Awards by the U.S. division of Sun Life Financial. Each organization will receive a $50,000 grant and a student from each organization will receive a $5,000 scholarship to help finance a postsecondary education. EDCO Disposal Inc. is the title sponsor for the 20th year … Employees for the city of Carlsbad participated in a fundraising campaign to raise funds to assist with food and medical care for the people of Haiti. The $3,700 raised was split between the World Food Programme and Doctors Without Borders … The sixth annual Dream House Raffle benefiting Ronald McDonald House of San Diego held a drawing March 17. Three individuals were awarded a total of $40,000; Sanford Benjamin won $25,000, Machelle Richardson $10,000 and Neil Gibbs $5,000. All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego … The Barona Band of Mission Indians presented a $5,000 education grant to Garfield High School. The alternative high school combines practical experience and traditional classroom instruction. The funds will be used to purchase textbooks to support its Middle College program, which is specifically designed for at-risk, low-performing yet academically gifted students.
