State Agency’s Chief Scientist Finds Work in San Diego

The state stem cell agency’s chief scientific officer has left the agency for a job with startup San Diego biotech Organovo, the company said March 16.

Marie Csete spent the last two years leading the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine’s stem cell research initiatives. She oversaw the development of all research programs, grant review, portfolio management and scientific strategy.

As Organovo’s executive vice president of research and development, she’ll be responsible for research initiatives at Organovo, which has developed a “bioprinter” used for creating blood vessels and other tissues from a patient’s own stem cells.

“Marie is an excellent fit to lead the company’s efforts to move our therapeutic pipeline rapidly to the clinic,” Keith Murphy, CEO of Organovo, said in a release.
