The late Muriel Gluck bequeathed $750,000 to UC San Diego to underwrite a new concert series for seniors in San Diego. Undergraduate and graduate students in the university’s Department of Music will present the “Gluck Series,” a concert series bringing monthly performances to senior citizens throughout the county. Gluck, who was a longtime San Diego resident and patron of the arts and education, sought to support student performances that would entertain, uplift and engage senior adults in the spirit of music … Volunteer San Diego received several grants including a $15,000 grant from AT&T to help expand and enhance its technological capabilities to better meet the growing volunteer needs of numerous community organizations. The Leichtag Family Foundation also made a $10,000 donation to support a board match program, and San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization donated $800 to support the purchase of new computers and chairs … The Village at Market Creek in San Diego has been awarded an Affordable Green Neighborhoods Grant for sustainable redevelopment from the U.S. Green Building Council. The grant program provides a $25,000 cash award and educational resources from Bank of America to be used to pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, for Neighborhood Development certification. The money helps communities increase energy efficiency, decrease automobile dependence, reduce urban sprawl and encourage healthier lifestyles … Clark Builders Group, Clark Realty Capital and Clark Construction sponsored The Clark CARES San Diego sixth annual golf tournament at the Maderas Golf Club. The $300,000 raised will go to benefit nonprofit organizations including those in support of military veterans and youth development. Chelsea’s Light Foundation, established in honor of the life of teenager Chelsea King, was among the beneficiaries. “This contribution to our Sunflower Scholarship Fund will motivate and reward hard-working high school students who have their hearts set on going to college,” said Kelly and Brent King, founders of Chelsea’s Light … Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater received a Challenge America grant of $10,000 to support Trolley Dances, an annual site-specific dance event presented in partnership with the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. “Support from the federal government helps small organizations like ours continue to thrive, and we are honored to be recognized in this way,” said Jean Isaacs, artistic director … Waste Management of San Diego was honored with a Blue Sky Leadership Award from the County of San Diego Air Pollution Control District and the Industrial Environmental Association. Vahac Mardirosian, has been awarded a “Remarkable Leader in Education” award from the University of San Diego. Mardirosian was recognized for his extraordinary and outstanding contribution to the field of education … Stone Brewing Co. delivered 45 Thanksgiving dinners to Casa de Amparo for foster families caring for abused, neglected or at-risk children. Stone Brewing has supported Casa for more than five years, and the Thanksgiving dinners were a new addition to its giving. … Dirk Needham, chief operating officer for Macbeth Apartment Services in Carlsbad, has been awarded the Certified Property Manager of the Year award by the San Diego chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management.
