The NTC Foundation received grants to provide funds for the renovation of the next phase of 26 historic buildings at the former Naval Training Center. A grant of $300,000 from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment will augment other funds to renovate Officers’ Quarters D. The county of San Diego’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Program approved a $100,000 grant at the recommendation of county Supervisor Pam Slater-Price to support Phase II renovations … Audrey S. Geisel of Dr. Seuss Fund/San Diego Foundation is the Platinum Sponsor with a $25,000 contribution for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts’ Butterfly Ball, which is scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Hotel del Coronado. The funds raised at the event will go toward providing free surgery for children with deformities to help them build confidence and lead healthy, productive lives … The San Diego Foundation celebrated 35 Years of Giving at the San Diego Symphony Summer Pops on July 11. The foundation has provided $700 million in grants for this region since its inception in 1975. “Even in austere times, our donors and supporting foundations continued to give generously to support their passions and the needs of our varied communities. It is very promising to see this commitment will continue as we announce 100 new funds,” said Bob Kelly, president and chief executive officer of the foundation … The Neighborhood House Association raised $125,000 for agency programs and services from its 2010 Virtual Gala, which ran from July 13 through Aug. 5. Donors made contributions through a Web site rather than at a traditional fundraiser or gala. “Over the last four years, many kindhearted San Diego businesses and individuals have come together to raise more than $500,000 to support local communities through NHA’s programs and services. The Virtual Gala presents an ideal opportunity to give back in these tough economic times,” said Jack McGrory, 2010 Virtual Gala chairman. The funds go to help underserved individuals and families with child care, family support services, access to medical assistance and educational opportunities … The Parker Foundation has granted $35,000 to the Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater and the San Diego Ballet to enhance their strategic use of social media for marketing and public relations. The grants will provide funding for a social media director who will divide time between the two companies and spearhead efforts to develop new communications concepts and technologies … Young Audiences of San Diego has received grants to support Arts for All National Students. The Sidney E. Frank Foundation contributed $31,480 and the Walton Family Foundation Inc. contributed $5,000 to support the program, which provides equal access to high-quality arts instruction to all elementary school students of the National School District in National City … Michelle Morris received a University of California Alumni “Change the World” Scholarship from UC San Diego Extension. Morris will use her scholarship to pursue a certificate in art and the creative process … Jazz 88.3 Ocean Beach Music & Art Festival is scheduled to be held Sept. 11. Seven stages, 26 bands and 60 visual artists will be featured along with a craft beer garden featuring Pizza Port, Ballast Point Brewing Co., Stone Brewing Co. and Coronado Brewing Co.
