MAC Cosmetics, through its charitable MAC AIDS Fund, announced a $50,000 grant to Mama’s Kitchen, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. “We thank Mama’s Kitchen for its commitment to providing for the needs of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS in its community,” said John Demsey, group president, The Estee Lauder Cos. Inc. and chairman of the board, MAC AIDS Fund. Mama’s Kitchen will use the grant to support its daily operations. Komen for the Cure … San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers held his first football camp for youth July 10-11 at UC San Diego to benefit the Rivers of Hope Foundation. Rivers hosted 25 youths from the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. The camp hosted a total of 200 youths and all proceeds went toward the Rivers of Hope Foundation, which helps abandoned and orphaned children. During the camp, Rivers announced a $25,000 grant to San Diego’s Angels Foster Family Network … Attorneys and staff of Best Best & Krieger LLP volunteered their time July 19 to stuff backpacks with school supplies that they purchased for homeless students. Operation Backpack is organized by Volunteers of America. BB&K purchased 350 backpacks at a reduced rate from JanSport, which also donated 50 backpacks. The backpacks were stocked with supplies donated by OfficeMax and Bluebird Office Supplies … Jazzercise Inc. founder and Chief Executive Officer Judi Sheppard Missett presented $163,000 to Back in the Swing USA, an organization that promotes breast cancer survivorship programs and research. Jazzercise held special classes to benefit Back in the Swing during the month of May, which is National Fitness Month. On July 28, Missett along with President Shanna Missett Nelson, presented a check to Back in the Swing founder and breast cancer survivor Barbara Unell … The San Diego chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners donated $1,500 to San Diego City College, which will fund three $500 scholarships for women pursuing business degrees. The event raised $102,000 in support of Voices for Children … Jewish Family Service of San Diego received a $10,000 grant from county Supervisor Ron Roberts’ Fourth District Neighborhood Reinvestment Fund. The funding will go towards the purchase and installation of a computer lab and Cyber Café at the College Avenue Older Adult Center located on College Avenue … Home Start received a $10,000 donation from the Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation for the Maternity Shelter Program. The funds will allow for continued response to the urgent need for transitional housing and supportive services assisting pregnant or parenting young women throughout San Diego County … University of San Diego held its second annual Wine Classic event July 25 at the Garden of the Sea behind the Joan B.
