San Diego-based Veoh Networks, an online video sharing site, claimed victory Sept. 14 over Universal Music Group, after a federal judge threw out a copyright infringement lawsuit against the local media outfit.
The federal court awarded a summary judgment in the copyright lawsuit, finding that Veoh's copyright process is compliant with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Veoh had been sued over user videos using music from the Universal label in September of 2007.
Veoh is backed by Shelter Capital, Spark Capital, Michael Eisner's Tornante Co., Goldman Sachs, Time Warner, Intel Capital and Adobe Systems, among others.
