Voices for Children held its annual Starry, Starry Night Gala on Sept. 26 at the La Jolla home of Joan Waitt. The event raised $500,000, which enables Voices for Children to provide volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASAs, to San Diego’s foster children. The event raised $105,000 for the Scholarship Fund which will provide thousands of hours of services to dramatically change the lives of Challenge Center clients … San Diego Police Foundation’s Beyond the Headlines event was held Oct. 20 at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center. The event raised $200,000. SDPF supports cost-effective opportunities that increase the efficiency of the San Diego Police Department. Community support of the SDPF helps provide funding for upgraded equipment and educational programs … Ray Lewis of Rancho Santa Fe and Robin Rond of Rancho Penasquitos were the winners of the Man and Woman of the Year of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s San Diego chapter. They raised $35,000 for blood cancer research and patient services.
