The San Diego County Employees' Charitable Organization donated $10,000 to Rebuilding Together San Diego toward the purchase of a 14-foot box truck. "CECO not only recognizes the impact RTSD and its programs have on low-income residents of our community, but that RTSD's outreach benefits other nonprofits," said County Employees' Charitable Organization Allocations Chairperson Eileen Espinoza. CECO is a nonprofit, employee-managed organization that gives all donations from employees and retirees of the county of San Diego and Superior Court to local nonprofits and employees in crisis Poway Valley Collision received two awards for clean business practices: The county of San Diego presented the Green Business Program award and the Air Pollution Control District presented the County of San Diego Clean Air Award, which is given to only one business a year The Del Mar Village Association has named Willis Allen Real Estate's Del Mar branch manager, Judith Bradley, Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. Bradley has been an integral part of the revitalization organization since it was founded. Seven years ago, she created one of the group's most popular events, Taste of Del Mar and Art Stroll, which she still organizes each October San Diego Humane Society raised $1,500 in donations to support the programs and services of SDHS and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at Ben & Jerry's 30th annual Free Cone Day. The event was held at the Westfield Horton Plaza location Soltek Pacific Construction is the Platinum sponsor of $10,000-$15,000 for the Shakti Rising ninth annual Birdies and Butterflies Charity Golf Tournament, scheduled for June 5 on Oak Glen Course at Sycuan Resort. All proceeds will benefit Shakti's Education and Community Wellness programs The annual National Alliance on Mental Illness San Diego County Walk for the Mind of America was held April 18. The event helps raise money and awareness about the need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness. The walk raised $112,000 Cox Kids Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary and awarded $184,000 in grants to 20 organizations to support area children and their families. Those receiving grants included San Diego Youth Services, Social Advocates for Youth, Special Olympics and Arthritis Foundation The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's San Diego-based Pacific South Coast Chapter raised $800,000 at the two Walk MS events in April. The funds go to multiple sclerosis research and services and programs for people with MS. Presenting sponsors included NBC 7/39, Pepsi, KyXy 96.5, Legoland California, Continental Airlines and Sycuan Resort ElderHelp of San Diego's Wine & Dine-Cirque was held April 18 at Hard Rock Hotel. The $110,000 raised will go toward helping low-income, homebound and frail San Diego seniors stay independent in their own homes Parkinson's Disease Association of San Diego raised $165,000 at the 5K Walk held April 18 at Liberty Station. The funds support programs and services that serve San Diegans affected by Parkinson's, with half the proceeds going to research Center for Community Solutions is holding its 10th annual Tea on the Town, presented by HD Supply Facilities Maintenance and sponsored by Nordstrom, on May 21. Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund, is keynote speaker. The center provides treatment and prevention of sexual assault and relationship violence.
