Power Couples: Bob and Peggy Eddy

Bob and Peggy Eddy are co-founders of Creative Capital Management, a Mission Valley-based financial advising company.

Bob Eddy

Name: Bob Eddy.

Company: Creative Capital Management.

Titles: Co-founder and CFO.

Education: Drexel University, Philadelphia.

Birthplace: Bethesda, Md.

Age: 61.

Residence: El Cajon.

Bob’s Essentials:

How long have you been together: We will celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary in August.

How did you meet: When I was leaving the Marine Corps, I contacted a firm that provided career placement services for junior officers. Peg interviewed me at her office in the Hotel del Coronado. When I called to find out how I had done, I asked her out, which took her completely by surprise and thus began our relationship.

Your mate’s best quality: She is very thoughtful of others.

What’s your mate’s most annoying quality: Peg puts a lot of pressure on herself and therefore is too hard on herself.

How do you stay together and still share the spotlight: We have complementary skills and strengths; recognizing that each of us steps aside when the circumstances are appropriate for the other to step up and be in the spotlight.

What do you do for fun: Hike and travel.

What do you like to do separately: Golf.

Who’s the boss: It depends on the project or the task.

Peggy Eddy

Name: Peggy Eddy.

Company: Creative Capital Management.

Titles: Co-founder and president.

Education: B.A., Wheaton College, Norton, Mass.

Birthplace: Washington, D.C.

Age: 62.

Residence: El Cajon.

Peggy’s Essentials:

How did you meet: I was an owner of a career placement service and interviewed more than 500 junior officers for career placement assistance and finally found Bob, who was just perfect! When he called to find out how he had done, I told him I was taking a chance on setting up the interview as I had just only interviewed him and had to rush his resume for the next day. He asked me out. I said “yes,” and we’re still married and have our own firm together.

How long have you been together: Our first date was on May 14, 1973, and we were married in August 1974. The time has gone by very fast and we will celebrate our 35th anniversary this year, having parented two great young men and grown our firm together.

Your mate’s best quality: Bob’s easygoing nature and great sense of humor.

What’s your mate’s most annoying quality: Expecting a lot from those he loves.

How do you stay together and still share the spotlight: As we have complementary skills, sharing the stage isn’t difficult; Bob is more analytical and I am more verbal. These skill sets make for a great combination in our work and personal lives. We are very supportive of each other and discussed this question before we were married and started our business (which we did four months after we were married).

What do you do for fun: Hike and travel.

What do you like to do separately: Creative writing and tennis.

Who’s the boss: I let Bob think he is!
