Cubic to Mark 50 Years by Ringing NYSE Bell

Executives with San Diego’s Cubic Corp. will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange March 5 to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary as a public company.

Cubic, which operates a defense equipment division and a mass-transit equipment division, was founded by Walter Zable in 1949, and went public in 1959.

From modest beginnings as an engineering consulting firm, Cubic now has annual sales of nearly $900 million and 7,000 employees at 130 worldwide locations.

Zable is the company’s chairman. At 93, he still works daily at his office in Kearny Mesa and owns 40 percent of the company.
