The San Diego Foundation granted $62 million this past year to support nonprofits that carry out missions spanning a spectrum of causes. This record-setting year demonstrates the immense generosity of San Diegans, said the foundation. The After-the-Fires Fund was established during October's wildfires to receive donations to the foundation. To date, the San Diego Regional Disaster Fund Board has granted $7 million, and it works in close partnership with other local and regional funding organizations to support rebuilding projects The San Diego County Bar Foundation has awarded $110,000 to 10 organizations. Among recent recipients were Access Inc., Casa de Amparo, Center for Community Solutions, Community Resource Center and Elder Law & Advocacy ... Cameron Jay Rains is the 2008 recipient of The Robert Breitbard Award established in 1998 by the San Diego International Sports Council to recognize residents who have furthered the mission of the council. "Jay was the driving force behind bringing the U.S. Open golf tournament to our community and its impact will be felt for decades," said Dave Stecher, chairman of the council Jewish Family Service of San Diego held its annual Friends of the Family Reception at the New Americans Museum in Point Loma on Aug. 24. The reception kicked off this year's campaign to help those devastated by the adverse economy. A new fund in the daughter's name will support tuition, field trips and required international travel for students The 12th annual Wienerschnitzel Weiner Nationals was held Aug. 30 at Qualcomm Stadium , a fundraiser for the annual Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. The Rancho Coastal Humane Society is also a beneficiary. The title sponsors were HAI elite and Carlton Hair International. Other sponsors included San Diego National Bank, Sempra Energy Foundation and Sycuan Resort & Casino The Center for Community Solutions is holding its annual Chef Showdown Culinary Competition on Oct. 2 in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event is presented by Viejas Casino and the Kashi Co., and it will be held at NTC Promenade in Point Loma Dr. Ronald M. Kobayashi will be honored at the Parkinson Association's Spirit of Life Award dinner, to be held Oct. 26 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Hotel. Dr. Kobayashi serves as president of the local chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association Channel 4 and Loma Media collaborated with the San Diego Natural History Museum on the recent Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition, which earned an Emmy from the Pacific Southwest Chapter for Channel 4 and an Addy Award for Loma Media.
