TelCentris Unveils Software to Unify Communications

A San Diego telephone company, TelCentris, which has been operating since 2006, rolled out a computer application last week that it says will integrate all the messaging and communication applications modern man must tangle with to communicate with colleagues and friends.

No longer will users have to sign on to certain Web-based applications to get their message out , such as Facebook to reply to messages from Facebook friends, or Yahoo Mail to send an instant message to someone using Google Mail.

“We’ve created what we believe is a solution to communication overload,” said Bryan Hertz, CEO and co-founder of TelCentris.

The downloadable application, called VoxOx, will import address books and contacts from different applications and store them in one place. Users can then make phone calls over the Internet, text message mobile phones, video chat, e-mail, and send faxes, instant messages and files as large as 100 megabytes.

“It controls the flow of communication through multiple channels,” said Hertz.

The service is similar to Skype, a popular computer application used for video chatting and making international calls for pennies.

VoxOx also offers inexpensive phone rates , either from one’s computer, cell phone or , coming soon , from their land line, company officials say.

TelCentris, which does not disclose revenues, has 30 employees. Its telephone customers include “several dozen businesses” and a dozen very small phone companies with 1,000 to 5,000 customers that use TelCentris’ infrastructure, says Hertz.

The business recently raised an undisclosed amount of capital, and opened a second round of funding, says Hertz.

In the coming weeks, TelCentris will add an Internet-based residential land line to their VoxOx service, in addition to telephone service for business customers.
