Buick Invitational, Gala Drive Home Big Checks

The Century Club of San Diego raised $2.7 million to benefit San Diego organizations, schools, nonprofits and military programs. The major source of funds was the most recent Buick Invitational golf tournament, and its Diamond in the Rough Gala, held before the tournament. Monarch School received $332,000 from the event. Other beneficiaries included the American Red Cross Fire Relief Fund, $215,510; Pro Kids, $131,400; military charities, $100,000; and San Diego County Junior Golf Association, $72,125 The 62nd Annual Las Patronas Jewel Ball was held Aug. 2 at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. Underwriters included Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, AT & T; Corp. and Union Bank of California. The event raised more than $1 million, which will be distributed to 15 local nonprofits. A special fire grant goes to UC San Diego’s Regional Burn Center San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner was honored at the 15th annual Dinner of Champions, sponsored by the San Diego County Multiple Sclerosis Society. The event raised $151,000 for MS research and for programs The California Association of Community Managers presented a Vision Award to Bruce Becker of Coronado and Paola Scrimsher of Carlsbad. Vision Awards are presented to professional community managers for outstanding leadership and service Dan Pilkey, a sommelier with Addison at The Grand Del Mar, has attained the level of advanced sommelier, a certification from the American Chapter of the Court of Master Sommeliers. Pilkey is only the second sommelier in San Diego to attain this status Easter Seals Southern California received a $30,000 gift from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust to Easter Seals Camp Respite in San Diego County. The money will be used to provide camp scholarships for low-income children and adults who have autism and other disabilities ProFlowers will be the title sponsor for Casa de Amparo’s 2008 Crystal Ball to be held Nov. 1 at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. As title sponsor, ProFlowers will provide financial support, assuring that the proceeds will go directly to Casa de Amparo’s services and programs for abused and neglected children throughout San Diego County Jim Morrison of James M. Morrison Insurance Services Inc. located in Carlsbad received the Golden Eagle Award from the National Association of Health Underwriters. The award is the highest recognition bestowed upon an individual who has demonstrated professional excellence in the sale of health and disability income insurance UCSD’s Dr. Tim Morris has been selected as California Thoracic Society’s Outstanding Clinician of 2008. Morris was recognized for his dedication to improving treatments for diseases of the lung, as well as his community outreach and volunteerism Neiman Marcus and the Globe Guilders presented a luncheon and fashion presentation with designer Naeem Khan. The event was held Aug. 5 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Proceeds benefit Old Globe Theatre WindanSea Surf Club is hosting its 22nd annual Kids Day at the Beach on Aug. 23 at La Jolla Shores. Children from St. Vincent de Paul Shelter for Homeless Families will take part in the event, and will be served a barbecue lunch and receive a bag of items donated by local sponsors Operation: Military Kids, Marine Corps Community Services gave away 600 backpacks filled with school supplies Aug. 2 at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Lunch was served to 1,500 attendees. The event is part of the Liaison Program and Miramar School Accenture Sharp HospiceCare completed construction on its hospice home in Del Cerro to provide specialized care designed around patients and their families. Sharp HospiceCare’s Benefit Regatta to be held Aug. 22-23 helps support operational and capital expenses for the home Technology Integration Group has been recognized by Cisco Systems Inc. for achieving Cisco Channel Customer Satisfaction Excellence. Each quarter, Cisco acknowledges certified partners that have the highest customer satisfaction distinction within each geographic region The Heartland Masonic Lodge No. 576 in El Cajon held its fourth annual awards ceremony honoring El Cajon’s Peace Officer of the Year, Detective Paul Winslow, and Firefighter of the Year, Capt.
