California Still Golden in Would-Be Residents’ Eyes

Rochester, N.Y.-based Harris Interactive reported Sept. 10 that California is the No. 1 state to live in, for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Florida and Hawaii, which flipped spots for the third year in a row.

San Diego took second behind New York City for the most desirable city to live in, followed by Seattle, San Francisco and Las Vegas. California won three of the four age groups, winning over echo boomers (ages 18 to 30), Generation X (31 to 42) and matures (62 and older), with the allure of Hawaii stealing baby boomers (43 to 61).

The poll was conducted online Aug. 7 to 13 among 2,694 people age 18 or older.
