The Rotary Club of San Diego named Hal Sadler Mr. San Diego 2007 at an Aug. 23 meeting held at the Westin Hotel. Sadler was recognized for his outstanding commitment to the betterment of the San Diego region. He is a founding partner of Tucker Sadler Architects Inc. Beyond his achievements in architecture, Sadler has dedicated his time and talent to the growth and revitalization of downtown San Diego.

Sadler has designed some of San Diego's most prestigious projects, such as: renovation of the historic US Grant Hotel, the regional headquarters buildings for Union Bank, Security Pacific National Bank and Bank of America in downtown San Diego, Children's Hospital and Health Center's Jean Hahn Surgical Pavilion, Beckman Center for Chemical Sciences at Scripps Institute, and the expansion of the San Diego Convention Center.

He is nationally recognized as a visionary.

Sadler is the recipient of the 2007 American Institute of Architects, California Council Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the architectural profession.

Michael and Mindi Wissler, owners of the Sir Speedy printing services business at Arjons Drive in San Diego, received the Sir Speedy Century Club Award, presented annually at the Sir Speedy International Convention, which was held this year in Denver. "Recipients of the Century Club award demonstrate an ongoing commitment to hard work, business growth and customer service," said Sir Speedy President Richard Lowe.

The local chapter of the American Institute of Architects has presented Architect Rob Wellington Quigley with an Honor Award for the design of the new Student Services Building at UC San Diego. The Honor Award is the highest recognition granted annually by the San Diego AIA. The five-story Student Services Center puts academic resources such as admissions, financial aid and graduate studies in a single location next to the Student Union at the heart of campus.

Mike Cash, an active-duty Naval officer and founder of Operation Family Fund, attended the Navy Gold Coast Trade Show at the San Diego Convention Center on Aug. 14. The organization assists the injured and families of those who have been injured or killed as a part of the Global War on Terrorism, whether domestic or abroad, military or civilian, with financial grants for transitioning to their new circumstances and achieving financial self-sufficiency. More than 140 families have received grants from the fund, and $932,000 in donations has been received.

Alpha Mechanical Service & Engineering was recognized with The Irvine Co. Contractor of the Year Award. President Mark Swearingen and Vice President Tom Shaw received the award stating, "This is a great honor that we've worked very hard for. We take great pride in providing the best HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) service possible."

Amanda Haworth of La Jolla and Justin Sachs of Carlsbad are among five outstanding California teens named winners of an award for community service. A prize of $36,000 was given to Amanda and Justin. The awards are funded by the Helen Diller Family Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund, to develop leadership in teens and enhance Jewish education.

Corporate Directors Forum will present Director of the Year Awards on Sept. 25 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Lifetime Achievement in Corporate Governance winner is Ron Taylor; Corporate Governance, Karin Eastham; Enhancement of Economic Value, Donald Felsigner; Companies in Transition, Steven Francis; Not-for-Profit Board, Bruce Blakely; and Corporate Citizenship, Phil Blair and Mel Katz. The honorees are recognized for outstanding performance in the board room and behind the scenes.

The Public Relations Society of America awarded Cook & Schmid the 2007 Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation for its work with M Ship Co., a San Diego marine technology firm. Each year, PRSA presents anvil awards to organizations that represent the best in public relations tactics. Cook & Schmid won its award in the category of business-to-business, media relations, out of a field of hundreds of entries nationwide.

The San Diego Association of Realtors received an Award of Distinction from the Communicator Awards for San Diego Realtor magazine. The award is part of an international honors competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communication field. The Award of Distinction is bestowed on projects that exceed industry standards in production or communication skills.

The San Diego division of Stewart Title of California Inc. won Best of Show at the San Diego Association of Realtors Expo for the company's "green" resources.
