San Diego County Credit Union Finishes Construction on New Branch



Progress Report

Construction is complete for a new San Diego County Credit Union branch, located at 8555 Fletcher Parkway in the Grossmont Trolley Center in La Mesa. The 4,000-square-foot branch, designed by San Diego-based KMA Architecture & Engineering, is located in the former Pacific Theatres space and was built by local general contractor Good & Roberts.

San Diego construction firm Barnhart Inc. has completed construction on the Higher Education Center at Southwestern College in Otay Mesa. The $25 million, 68,000-square-foot structure houses the Police Academy, Environmental Technology, Nursing, and Emergency Medical Technician programs. The project was funded by Proposition AA, an $89 million bond approved by local voters in 2000.

The Classic Residence by Hyatt, located at 8515 Costa Verde Blvd. in University Towne Centre, celebrated its opening Tuesday, Oct. 16. The $130 million, 365,108-square-foot 20-story tower has 18 residences available that range from 1,200 square feet to 2,919 square feet and entrance fees range from $523,000 to $1.9 million. The Classic is scheduled to open in May.

Grossmont College is in the process of overhauling its more than 40-year-old physical fitness facility, putting $8.9 million of Proposition R money into remodeling the building. Cuyamaca College has unveiled a new $19 million student center that houses a Barnes & Noble bookstore, health and wellness center, student government and club offices, coffee shop and multipurpose rooms. The 47,000-square-foot building was paid for by Proposition R funds and about $600,000 from a fund students established.

Walls have been erected for eight new office and industrial buildings situated within Bressi Ranch Business Park in Carlsbad. The buildings have a combined total of 77,445 square feet of space, with units ranging in size from 6,000 square feet to 10,500 square feet. Smith Consulting Architects is providing architectural services for the project and TFW is the general contractor. Construction is expected to be finished in November.
